Butterfly Lands
Morning, windows flung open in this heat wave summer.
A butterfly lands in the dining room,
a silhouette folded like black paper against the white wall.
I turn,
a red admiral reveals its colours
and flutters out of the window
Just in time
before the windows are shut,
blinds drawn
daytime darkness is our new normal.
Later, packing my suitcase
a butterfly lands in my bedroom.
A silhouette folded like black paper
against the white bedroom wall
I turn,
and it is gone.
