Grow Happy: UEA and Earlham Park map

Welcome to the Grow Happy map! Together with UEA and Earlham Park cafe we are planting butterfly-friendly flowers to support butterflies in Happiness Gardens, explore nature, butterflies and poetry! Explore some of Norwich's most loved green spaces across the UEA and Earlham Park by walking to these locations on our map and finding a poem behind the butterfly icon inspired by butterflies - from Norfolk-based writers and poets throughout history. From Rumi, to Emily Dickinson, you can find inspiration from butterflies - and the green spaces that sustain them. Behind each butterfly on the map you'll find a location to walk to, a poem and the poet - enjoy exploring! Watch out for butterflies installed at Cow Drive created with Norwich Men's Shed and by children across Norfolk.

We are also delighted to be sharing an illustrated version of poem Under The Oak, by Ruthie Collins - illustrated by Philipa Mulvany - as a thank you to all the families and children who've taken part in Grow Happy so far.

The Project

We are mapping places to sow seeds and create Happiness Nurseries and Gardens to support butterflies and pollinators across Norfolk. Experience gardening, wildflowers, biodiversity and shared outdoor spaces.

Grow Happy

Originally a poem from the Natural Wonder collection, Happiness Is Growing celebrates the joy, well-being, and connection that comes from flowers in Norfolk - and growing! Since 2022, children in Norfolk have been planting and sowing seeds for flowers, alongside enjoying the poem by Ruthie Collins, created with funding from Arts Council England.

Thanks to support from the Get Involved Innovation Fund, administered by Community Action Norfolk, Grow Happy is helping residents and families plant Happiness Gardens and sow flower seeds in Happiness Nurseries - generating seedlings to help butterflies.
